About the project: As a knowledge partner to the Planning Department, Government of Meghalaya, ResGov is undertaking projects on understanding implementation of programmes including finances and evidence based decision making
Position Summary: The Research Associate will work closely with government partners to deliver high-impact research and capacity building initiatives. The role involves deep field and desk-based research on public finance and data systems. In addition to this, the RA will support programme management, field visits, maintaining timely reporting and documentation.
Key responsibilities:
Government engagement
- Support ongoing communication with government at state, district, and local levels to align project goals and timelines with administrative priorities.
- Coordinate with district or block-level officials during research and project implementation to secure permissions, schedule interviews, and collect administrative data.
- Support the design and delivery of workshops or training modules aimed at enhancing government officers’ capacities.
- Represent ResGov in collaborative review sessions, ensuring that engagement reflects institutional priorities, evidence integrity.
Research and quantitative analysis
- Conduct desk-based research and field studies on public finance systems, government data platforms, and climate finance mechanisms.
- Collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data to generate evidence for decision-making and capacity building initiatives.
- Assist in the content creation for capacity building sessions.
- Documentation of case studies to inform project strategies.
Programme management support
- Assist in planning and coordinating project activities to ensure timely implementation of tasks.
- Coordinate and participate in field visits, documenting observations and outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records of project activities, meetings, background notes, and field findings.
- Draft periodic progress updates and contribute to donor or partner reports.
Qualifications and Experience
- Graduate degree in public policy, governance, economics, development studies, environmental management, or related fields.
- 2-5 years of professional experience, with ability to work on multi-stakeholder projects.
- Deep understanding of Meghalaya and proficiency in Khasi or Garo is necessary.
- Strong communication skills.
- Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Deep interest in climate finance, evidence use in public policy, or capacity building.
Compensation
Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and skills, and aligned with sector standards.
Location
The position will be based in Shillong with travel to field sites in Meghalaya as required.
